A Place to Belong was an unexpected endeavor.

Shawn Martinez, the founder and owner, began his journey as a caregiver for his first client, an elderly man living with his mother who required assistance with basic life skills. This early experience ignited a passion that, after nearly nine years of challenges and rewards, led to the creation of his company. Shawn dedicated seven years as a Direct Support Professional at a Day Program in Thornton, Colorado, working with individuals with significant behavioral needs, providing one-on-one support. His most notable accomplishments are reflected in the improved lives of these individuals, whom he helped reintegrate into their day program groups, enabling them to interact with peers and form enduring friendships. He channeled his achievements and refined skills from his years of experience into founding a small company, which he named 'A Place to Belong.' This name was born from a desire to assist those in need and to ensure that everyone felt they had a place where they belonged in the world.
